Water Safety Awareness Week is back - and this year it’s set to make an even bigger splash!
For the second year, The Royal Life Saving Society UK are raising awareness of how to be safe on, in or near water.
Our aim is to prevent drowning through education, and to help people enjoy water safely. We want to reduce the number of injuries and accidental deaths caused by drowning.
The need is clear. Each year more than 400 people drown in the UK and potentially a further 120,000 people suffer near drowning experiences. Shockingly, drowning is the third highest cause of accidental death in children in the UK. But it’s not just children who are in danger. Men, and young men in particular, present the highest risk. And against some expectations, more than half of people who drown knew how to swim.
