MARCH 27TH!!!!
We want everyone who believes in civil rights to stand up and say "I'm With Edie!"
Who is this Edie?
Edie is an 83 year old woman who has made all of our lives better. She taught us fierce. She's a woman who has always been determined to live the life she desires, to dance when she hears good music, earn a good paycheck after a long day, and marry the one she loves under fully fair and equal treatment.
There’s Edie in all of us.
But, Edie hasn’t always had that.
So on March 27th, this smart, vivacious, 83 year old woman will get her shot presenting her case for equal rights and dignity to nine US Supreme Court judges.
Because the federal government does not recognize same-sex marriage, Edie was forced to pay heavy inheritance taxes ($363,000) not required of married heterosexuals.
Edie is suing the United States for recognition of her marriage to her love, Thea, with whom she had a four-decade long union until her recent death.
Edie says it the best, “[Marriage matters] to our dignity as human beings and our being able to be who we are openly.”
Why should I care?
Equality and civil rights matter to you, your community, and the world. And this is one of the biggest civil rights moments of our lifetime like Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall before us.
Bill Clinton, President Obama, and major corporations are with Edie, even Republicans. Now, it is time for the people of the United States and beyond to express their demand for social justice.
The Supreme Court takes into consideration the state of the nation. And the state of our nation is Standing With Edie.
I’m with Edie. And it’s time you showed the world you are too.
