In Greater Victoria, people were turned away from just ONE emergency shelter more than 1,500 times from Nov 2011 to Mar 2012. During that same time period, the mean temperature ranges between 3 to 6 degrees Celsius - hypothermia can begin at 10!

By pledging to Turn Your Heat Off for just 24 hours, you pledge to better understand the experience of those living in homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
You understand hundreds for people are without a home in Greater Victoria and sleep in the cold and wet when they are unable to find a space in an emergency shelter or make other arrangements.
By pledging, you understand those at risk of homelessness are living in extreme poverty have to make hard choices; all too often that choice is no heat during the cold winter months.
