By taking part in this campaign, you can show the world that Canadians care about the health of mothers and children in the developing world and we will continue to take action so they can live healthier lives.
Maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) is Canada's top development priority.
Before Canada drew attention to the importance of maternal, newborn and child health, the world was falling short on reducing child mortality and curbing maternal death. Thanks to the Muskoka Initiative and subsequent global action such as the United Nations’ Every Woman Every Child initiative, maternal mortality rates are declining and millions more children are celebrating their fifth birthday.
Our common goal has not yet been reached, but it is within arm’s reach. That is why Canada is once again taking action to mobilize the world. Canada is hosting Saving Every Woman Every Child: With Arm’s Reach, an international summit on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health from May 28-30, 2014, in Toronto.
The Summit will focus on reducing the preventable deaths of newborns, mothers and children under the age of five in developing countries. It will bring together global leaders and Canadian experts to galvanize support for the next phase of efforts and ensure that maternal, newborn and child health remains a global priority.
