Drastic cuts to the UK Coastguard service were proposed on 16 December 2010. If they go ahead, there will be only two 24-hour MRCCs (Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centres) to handle all search and rescue emergencies in the UK. Most other Coastguard stations will close, leading to an inevitable loss of local knowledge and engagement. Lives will be lost!
Please support the Coastguard. Write to your MP and the MCA. The consultation is ongoing - recently extended to 5 May 2011 (was 24 March).
