A global institution, Warwick University has a duty to confront its colonial past and present. #RenameRadcliffe is a campaign to rename the Radcliffe conference centre on campus. Named after the first vice chancellor of the university, Viscount Radcliffe was responsible for drawing up the 1947 partition of India, creating Pakistan and what is known today as Bangladesh. These borders led to the death and displacement of up to potentially 16 million people. Renaming the centre is one small way in which the university can show that they understand their past and acknowledge the colonial legacies of figures that are celebrated on this campus.
