August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day. Even while overdose deaths continue to rise each year in the U.S., most lawmakers remain opposed to solutions grounded in harm reduction and health-based strategies. If we want to end overdoses, we need to implement life-saving solutions - expand access to buprenorphine and other medication-assisted treatment, in addition to naloxone, create sites that offer supervised consumption services, and see how heroin-assisted treatment could work here.
