No to Child Brides in Iraq

We are opposed to the Government of Iraq's plan to introduce the Ja'afari Personal Status Law, which if passed by their parliament, would legalise marriages to girls as young as nine years old. We are disgusted by this proposal, which will be voted on by the Iraqi parliament, after the April 2014 elections. We urge all parties in Iraq's parliament to reject the Ja'afari Personal Status Law and to reinforce Iraq's international obligations, to safeguarding the rights of all children.
