A Detroit Education Commission (DEC) would bring quality and stability to all schools in Detroit - both traditional public and charter.
The DEC is part of Senate's Detroit education legislation, and is widely supported by Detroit teachers, educators, parents, school operators, lawmakers, business community members, the Coalition for the Future of Detroit Schoolchildren, Gov. Rick Snyder and Mayor Mike Duggan.
Establishing a DEC would protect school choice while ensuring Detroit families are provided with QUALITY choice. Detroit children deserve quality schools that: serve children of every ability, in every community; empower local decision-making; and are held accountable to meet a high-standard of student achievement.
Excellence is within reach, and it begins with the DEC.
