COD Modern Warfare 2 PC Fail

The latest in the Call of Duty series of games for the PC, Modern Warfare 2, will be released without support for dedicated servers. A major impact of this decision means playing multiplayer games online will no longer be done on a professionally hosted server connected to a fast internet backbone, but will be subject to the performance of the computer and connection bandwidth of the player hosting the session. We will also lose the ability to police servers and remove players who abuse others or the system. There are many other objections to the removal of a component that has become an integral part of the PC gamers online experience, and you can read more on the web (didn't want to link without permission so feel free to use your favourite serach engine - search for COD Modern Warfare 2) Some petitions have been started and have gathered hundreds of thousands of names in only a few days. I signed this one http://www.petitiononline.com/dedis4mw/petition-sign.html Unfortunately I think its too late for this situation to be changed before the release of the game so I cancelled my pre-order. If you're a PC gamer who was planning to buy Modern Warfare 2 I'll leave you to decide how important this is to you, but I decided to state my annoyance publicly by adding this text 'COD MW2 PC #FAIL' to my Twitter avatar. Feel free to join me...it may not change the minds of Infinity Ward, but as one of the thousands who will not now be buying this game it does help to vent a little.
