Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of our most frequently asked questions.
What is a Twibbon?
A Twibbon is like a bumper plate sticker for your twitter avatar. It is used to promote a cause on twitter by overlaying an image on your profile picture to show your allegiance to a Twibbon cause. A Twibbon cause can be anything from a protest, memorial, event or even a popular person or band, for example:
- http://twibbon.com/join/IndonesiaUnite to support the fight against terrorism in Indonesia
- http://twibbon.com/join/1010 to promote 10:10 a British initative to combat climate change.
- http://twibbon.com/join/I-Love-McFly to support the band McFly
- http://twibbon.com/join/WineBloggersConfrence to show you'll attend the Wine Bloggers' Conference
When I try and add a Twibbon, it says ‘Can’t log in with those credentials’. Help!
If you are sure that you have entered your login details correctly, this message will appear when you have hit your Twitter ‘rate limit’. This occurs when you have been using Twitter too much in the past hour. To fix this, wait 60 minutes at the most and then try again. If the problem persists, please contact us @twibbonsupport on Twitter or via support@twibbon.com.
How do I create a Twibbon?
Promoting your own cause on Twibbon is incredibly easy. Simply go to http://twibbon.com/create and add the name, logo and description of your cause, and you’re done! Creating your own Twibbon is free, fun and simple to promote. So what are you waiting for? Start something! To make a Twibbon, it’s best to have software like Paint.NET or GiMP, which are free to download, but you can also use pixlr, where no download is necessary – simply edit pictures in your browser. Before you attempt to create a Twibbon, it’s best to have a look through our blog post: http://blog.twibbon.com/how-do-i-make-a-twibbon.
How do I remove a Twibbon?
How do I remove my Twibbon? If you click on ‘My Profile’ at the top right of the home page, you will have access to your entire Twibbon history. From here, you can revert back to older Twibbons, or remove your Twibbons altogether. Please note that you need to sign into Twitter before you can view My Profile. This can be done by clicking the button at the top right of the home page. If the option to revert back to your original avatar is not present, this is because you added a Twibbon before we started storing original avatars. To remove your Twibbon in this scenario, simply reupload your original avatar to Twitter. For a more detailed explanation with pictures, please read our blog post at: http://blog.twibbon.com/removing-a-Twibbon-is-easy.
Are my Twitter Login details protected?
Yes. Twibbon now uses OAuth - an open standard for authorisation adopted by Twitter which allows users to login to applications without sharing their password. This much more secure method has now been implemented around the Twibbon site, allowing you greater peace of mind when joining a cause or creating a Twibbon. At the top right of the home page, you will now see a link that invites you to log into your Twitter account. Clicking here will send you to Twitter where you can login to your account, and then be redirected back to Twibbon.com. Not only is OAuth incredibly secure, it will greatly speed up your Twibbon experience. Once you have logged into Twitter, you can join Twibbons, create causes and edit your profile with just a single click! There's no need to re-enter your login details ever again.
I’ve seen a Twibbon that offends me. Where can I report it?
If you send a tweet to @twibbonabuse with the URL of the cause in question, we will investigate.
Why can’t I edit the title or description of my cause?
This is because we cannot be certain that the supporters of the Twibbon would want the cause changed.
Take this example: A cause for ‘Jeremy Clarkson for President’ has 500 supporters, who have all signed up believing to be supporting such a noble cause. The founder of the cause then changes the title to be ‘Ban All Annoying Mobile Ringtones’, then 500 supporters may be unaware that they are now supporting something entirely different. Therefore, titles and descriptions of causes cannot be changed after they have been created. In the case of spelling or grammatical errors, if you send us a tweet or email before you gain any supporters, we can change the title or description for you. Only if you ask nicely though.
Can I replace a Twibbon design I’ve created?
Yes. Cause creators have the exclusive ability to change their Twibbon by going to the cause page, and clicking on ‘Change The Twibbon’. Other supporters won’t be affected by this change, and it’s up to the creator to suggest that supporters alter their Twibbons to the updated design.
Can I have more than one Twibbon?
Yes! You can have as many Twibbons as you like. Be aware, though, if Twibbons appear in the same part of your avatar the most recent Twibbons will overlap the oldest.
